Air conditioner dealers will have to suffer a substantial loss due to bad weather in the whole month of April 2012. Due to this ac sales has effected terribly. Some companies like Godrej, Samsung, LG had offered freebies to lure buyers.
April and May are traditionally two months when the sale for air conditioners is highest in India. So far, air conditioner sales have been barely 12-15 per cent this month against the usual 20 per cent.
“The weather in these parts is not yet favourable for air conditioners. At least 15 per cent of our AC sales happen in April but this time around we have seen barely 10-12 per cent so far. Hence, we see a need for some offers on air conditioners even in summers to push sales through unlike earlier years where no offers were needed in summers as it was a compulsive purchase,” Kamal Nandi, vice-president, Godrej Appliances said.
“Temperature in Delhi and other northern parts is cooler than it has traditionally been in April, at least 8-9 degree below normal. As a result, people are postponing the purchase of air conditioners,” Saurabh Baisakhia, head-air conditioners of LG Electronics said.
“Summers have arrived late and almost every week there is imminent cooling in temperature because of showers. This has impacted air conditioner sales in April,” R Zutshi, deputy managing director of Samsung India added.
